How to Get a San Francisco Marriage License

Are you planning on obtaining a San Francisco Marriage License? We created a step by step guide to help you in obtaining that important piece of paper.

1. Make a reservation
Make a reservation to obtain a marriage license; reservations are availableMonday-- Friday beginning at 8:15 a.m. and every half hour between 8:30 a.m.through 3:30 p.m. You can make reservations online or in person at the SanFrancisco County Clerk's office Monday-- Friday from 8:00 a.m.-- 4:00 p.m. Bookthe appointment for your marriage license no more than 90 days before yourwedding. And remember: both the bride- and groom-to-be must be present at theappointment.

3. Bring ​valid Identification

Bring valid authentic legal photo identification card containing photograph, full legal name, date of birth, date of issue, and date of expiration (Examples: passport, driver's license, naturalization certificate, resident alien card, military I.D.) If the legal picture I.D. card does not contain your full legal name you must also present a certified copy of birth certificate or social security card, showing your full legal name.

There will be a license fee of $104 collected at the time of scheduling. You can pay by cash, money order, or credit/debit card. If you are reserving online, credit card is the best form of payment.

4. After getting the license
Your marriage license expires after 90 days after the date it was issued so you need to find your wedding venue and vendors to tie the knot.
